September 03, 2010
Dear Liberty Academy Parents and Guardians:
Please allow me to introduce myself. My name is Jessica Hellinger and I am a fellow parent and President of the Liberty Academy’s PTO.
It is my pleasure to welcome new and “returning” families to Liberty Academy’s 2010-2011 school year. I hope that you had productive and restful summer. While I thoroughly enjoyed playing summer camp counselor for my three children, I must say that on the first day of school, the knowledge that skilled educators would be assuming responsibility for my children was most welcomed!
As parents of Liberty Academy students, you are all automatically members of the Liberty Academy PTO. The PTO is a non-profit organization whose purpose is to support the students by engaging in fundraising projects, supporting the various student enrichment activities, providing a forum for parent, teacher, and student interaction through community events, and promoting open communications between parents, teachers, Liberty Academy and the community.
Please mark your calendars for the year’s first PTO meeting. It will be held on Wednesday, September 15th at 6:00 p.m. in the Multi-Purpose Room located on the ground level. Agenda items will include discussion of planned programs, volunteer opportunities and a vote to approve the yearly operating budget. Refreshments will be served and children are welcomed to attend.
Two key volunteer opportunities that remain open are the roles of Secretary and Parent Board Liaison.
The principal duty of the Secretary is to keep a written record and present minutes of all meetings of the PTO. Last year the secretary spent an average of two hours per month performing her duties as Secretary. There are no special background and qualification requirements to perform the job.
The role of Parent Board Liaison; involves keeping records of all parents concerns, complaints and ideas and meet with the schools board by attending there monthly board meeting and advise them of what transpired at the last PTO meeting. The time commitment is variable, but can run up to 4 hours per month.
If you would like to be nominate yourself or someone else for either of these officer roles, please contact me.
The PTO holds general meetings once per month, usually on the 2nd Wednesday of each month at 6:00 p.m. in the Multi-Purpose Room. However, due to scheduling conflicts, the first meeting of the year will remain same and at said meetings we are looking to change to the 2nd Thursday of every month. Please read the weekly Bulletin for updates on meeting dates and times. PTO suggestion boxes are maintained in the main office.
I encourage all Liberty Academy parents with an interest in supporting the work of the PTO to contact me. There are volunteer opportunities of all sizes and descriptions that could benefit from your talents. I look forward to seeing you again or meeting you for the first time.
Sincerely,
Jessica Hellinger
Liberty Academy PTO President
