Character Education
Character Education is one of Liberty’s highly developed programs. Character Education has been integrated into the school’s curriculum as part of the goal to implement the “responsible, contributing citizens” in the school’s mission statement. In striving to promote a positive learning environment in which children are motivated to succeed, building character and respect for one another are essential. The school counselor is instrumental in facilitating positive external structures that assist a student in developing internal controls. Counselors promote healthy development in many ways, as well as respond to crisis situations that occur. The proactive promotion of conflict resolution skills, decision-making skills, and effective peer interactions are essential areas of focus. These skills are vital in assisting students in developing the positive self concepts and egos required in our complex society. Liberty strives to address the broad educational needs of the individual, school and community through this program. The school counselor plays a vital role in accomplishing this and Liberty has developed their very own. In conjunction with this, Peer Mediators are trained to serve their fellow schoolmates in conflict resolution. They have also brought outside programs such as DARE.
