Science
The Administration, Board of Trustees, and stakeholders at Liberty Academy Charter School (LACS) believe that all students can and should learn enough science to participate as informed citizens in society. Science literacy becomes more important as technology becomes eve more infused in everyone’s daily life and activities. The quantity of scientific knowledge has increased to the point that no school would attempt to teadh all of science, but rather we intend to follow the guidelines of the NJ CCCS and provide learning opportunities for our studens that will impart an understanding of fundamental scientific principles and help them agrow towards scientific literacy. In addition, we believe that the development of critical thinking skills should be part of the science experience in the classroom. We have designed a curriculum which emphasizes the awareness of the connection of science to all other subjects. Where developmentally appropriate, science skills will be taught with a correlation to reading, math, and social studies skills. Health and safety will also be part of our science lessons. LACS teachers will have resources available to demonstrate scientific principles and to allow students the opportunity for hands-on experiences that will help make the principles “real”.
