Technology
The Administration, Board of Trustees, and stakeholders at Liberty Academy Charter School (LACS) believe that all students can and should succeed in a world that expects and requires use of many technologies. Technological Literacy captures practical, theoretical and ethical experiences all children need in order to grow intellectually, socially, and emotionally in classrooms across the curriculum. We teach students to use technology tools appropriately across the curriculum. All areas of our curriculum benefit from instructional technology support. At LACS, we believe that if students learn to understand concepts of enhancing learning and instruction with the support of technology, and if they learn to use these various modes of technology individually and in combination, they will have the Technological Literacy skills they need to discover personal and shared meaning throughout their lives. Becoming fluent with technology skills and learning to take advantage of technology support to improve learning enables students to participate as citizens and leaders while still enrolled in school and after graduation. At LACS we follow the guidelines of the NJ CCCS and provide learning opportunities for our students that will impart the means through which they can receive information, think logically, and creatively express ideas with the support of technology. In addition, we believe that if they learn to use these tools, they will have the skills necessary to discover personal and shared meaning throughout their lives. We have designed a curriculum that allows learners to achieve mastery of Technological Literacy not by adding skills one-by-one to their repertoire, but rather by using and exploring technology support in its many dimensions and integrating technology into all of their learning experiences. LACS teachers have resources available to give students opportunities for hands-on experiences that will help students become skilled learners able to solve many kinds of problems independently. The NJ Department of Education has provided useful examples of lessons in their, " Frameworks for Technological Literacy." These frameworks can be accessed on the web at:
