Dear Parent/Guardian:
It is an honor and privilege for me to welcome you back to another school year at Liberty Academy. We are here to help each of our children learn and grow to their maximum potential. In my second year here at Liberty, I am eager to continue our work together to insure your child gets the best possible instruction and services. That commitment will remain as your child and you join us for another exciting year at school. More details will be forthcoming about your child’s particular grade level instructional program at Back To School Night on September 16 at 6:00 pm when we welcome you back at the first regularly scheduled PTO Meeting in our School Gymnasium.
I realize you are in the midst of summertime events and I hope you and the children are enjoying them. But I also want to review some of the essential and helpful things you and children will need to know as we start off the school year.
Back to School Materials and Supplies
We have received requests from some of you about what materials the children need to have. We suggest if possible for you and your child to have the following items on the first day and throughout the year to begin their school work right from the first day.
· 5 Single Subject Spiral Bound Notebooks for each subject: Reading Response Journal, Writing Journal, Math, Science, Social Studies.
· Pencil Box or Case with pens, pencils, erasers, small pencil sharpener, colored pencils, crayons, small stapler with staples, glue stick and paper clips.
· Looseleaf Paper Three-holed punched and a Three Ring Notebook Binder of 2 inches or more with tabs for each subject.
· Small spiral notebook
· Book Covers for each of the Subjects
School Calendar
Enclosed in the packet of information being provided to you is the School Calendar of Events for the 2010-11 School Year. Please keep it handy for reference because it lists all major school days and holidays including 12:30pm dismissal days
School Handbook and Conduct
On the first day of school, the children will be receiving a Handbook of our school policies. We ask that you go over it with them just the same as we will so they understand our expectations in terms of academics, behavior and policies of the school. There will be a signature form enclosed for you to sign and return with your child. We will go over the policies and procedures with you more on Back to School Night and certainly answer your any questions you may have.
Summer Reading Lists
Please remind you child about the summer reading assignment of one book per grade level that was made at the end of school by last year’s teacher. The children will be responsible for taking a test on this reading and it will serve as one of their first test grades. Your child’s teacher will be providing more information about this assessment.
New Looks
Please be on the lookout for your child’s NJASK Test scores that will be coming once they arrive for all students in Grades 4-8. In addition, this year we will be selecting one class for electronic books as a further way of implementing our Technology Plan. Our new website is almost ready for release and we will be announcing key events and information for you and the children.
We look forward for a rewarding school year ahead, filled with success for each child and raising levels of achievement for all students. We need your help, support and continued cooperation for making this year a special one for your child at Liberty Academy.
Please contact the school with more information or questions in anticipation of our first day of school and please enjoy the remaining days of summer.
Sincerely Yours,
Michael T. Derczo, Ed. D.
