The Administration, Board of Trustees, and stakeholders at Liberty Academy Charter School (LACS) believe that all students can and should succeed as readers, writers, speakers, viewers and listeners. Language Arts literacy captures language experiences all children need in order to grow intellectually, socially, and emotionally in classrooms across the curriculum.
At LACS, we believe that if students learn to read, write, speak, listen, and view critically, strategically, and creatively, and if they learn to use these arts individually and with others, they will have the literacy skills they need to discover personal and shared meaning throughout their lives. Becoming fluent with all of the language arts skills enables students to participate as citizens and leaders while still enrolled in school and after graduation. At LACS we intend to follow the guidelines of the NJ CCCS and provide learning opportunities for our students that will impart the means through which they can receive information; think logically and creatively express ideas. In addition, we believe that if they learn to use these arts individually and with others, they will have the literacy skills necessary to discover personal and shared meaning throughout their lives.
We have designed a language curriculum which allows learners to achieve mastery of language arts literacy not by adding skills one-by-one to their repertoire, but rather by using and exploring language in its many dimensions.
LACS teachers will have resources available to give students opportunities for hands-on experiences that will help make the world of literacy come alive.
