Cultivating Excellence in All That We Do
Flying screens

December 17, 2012
Dear Staff, Parents and Students,

I would like to take this opportunity to welcome everyone back to yet another productive and eventful school year! My name is Gregory Cooper, and I am honored to serve as the new Educational Leader of Liberty Academy Charter School.

As the newest member of the Liberty family, I feel that it is necessary to provide you with some information about myself and the journey which has lead me to work with you. I commenced my career in education as a second grade teacher in Harlem, New York at PS 200 in District 5. I spent three years there providing quality instruction to the children assigned to my care, I also taught fifth grade in Paterson, NJ and I enjoyed every minute of it. Soon, I was presented with a unique opportunity to join the New Jersey Department of Education as an Education Program Development Specialist. My role in this position was to provide thirteen Jersey City schools with technical support in their efforts to complete school-based budgets and programs designed to improve student achievement in accordance with the Whole School Reform initiative. After spending five years with the NJDOE, I transitioned back into the school environment where I served three years as a Vice Principal in Paterson, NJ. My responsibilities there included being the master scheduler and administrator for the math and science departments and ninth grade class. I was then given the wonderful opportunity to serve as a middle principal in Irvington, NJ and did so from September 2009 – June 2011.

After gaining an awareness of some challenges that our school currently faces, my goal for the upcoming year is to unite us as a team in an effort to overcome these setbacks. Once the school year begins, my administrative team and I will be performing focused walk-throughs on a regular basis, forming various committees, holding meetings with every grade level, being visible in the hallways and creating an atmosphere that is conducive to learning and one that all will enjoy coming to. As dedicated professionals, it is my hope that you possess the same desire as I do to implement our common vision of success. I look forward to moving Liberty Academy Charter School in a positive direction by utilizing the talents of our students with the commitment and passion of our teachers to strive for excellence.

Please remember that I am here to support you in your educational endeavors and together we can make Liberty Academy Charter School the best school in New Jersey!

Yours in Education,

Gregory L. Cooper
